Faculty Development Session
Faculty Development Session by ‘Father of Quality Movement in Higher Education in India’, Dr. Arun Nigvekar
MITSOM College had organized a Faculty interaction with an expert in the field of Accreditation – the initiator of NAAC, Prof. (Dr.) Arun Nigvekar on 30th January 2014. His significant contributions have been use of technology for enhancement of utility and quality of higher education and internationalization of higher education. The path breaking one being an initiation of concept of Quality in Higher Education as a Founder Director of NAAC, for which he was aptly called as a 'Father of Quality Movement in Higher Education in India' by none other than the Former President of India, Honorable Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
He was Chairman and Vice Chairman of UGC between 2000 & 2005 and was a moving force behind formulating of strategy for development of higher education in the Tenth Plan of Government of India. Before coming to Delhi he was a Vice Chancellor of University of Pune, a university that attained a status of University with Potential for Excellence under his leadership. He was a member of UGC in 1993-1996 and initiated several reforms like decentralization of UGC administration, corpus for higher education institution. He was a member of Distance Education Council and is also an adviser to Commonwealth of Learning in Canada.
It was thus very apt that a person of his stature be invited to our college to help us in the process of accreditation. Recently, Dr. Nigvekar visited our college and had an interaction with our teachers. His easy approach, patience and simplicity combined with the command over NAAC process made all the faculties feel at ease and helped in solving all our doubts and anxieties associated with accreditation process.
